I'm not sure about Miata, but on many cars if you pull the bulb then it will "beep" at you to let you know that there is a problem, and the bulb is burned out !

Seriously, best thing to do is FIX the problem, not sweep it under the rug.

The intake manifold needs cleaning (Egr passage) The Cat efficiency is too low. This can be caused by a flakey ignition system that eventually causes the Cat(s) to fail.
