question about old 626

Nov 28, 2003 3 Replies

Greetings,

Just stumbled across a used mazda for sale and I have some questions if anyone might be willing to help.

It is a 1988 mazda 626 sedan, pretty sure its not turbo. 141k miles, automatic, p/s, a/c, good condition

Is there anything specific I should look for when I go see this car this weekend? Any particular issues with this model/mileage? I've heard these cars last forever, but this one is an automatic. What about timing belt issues, radiator, suspension, etc?

Any comments will be appreciated thanks

we have a 1990 626 we keep as a spare car, my wife bought it brand new

the A/C packed it in a few years ago and it's impossible ($$$$) to fix without replacing everything, because it uses the old freon, but otherwise it run perfect at 192,000 km's

the motor is a s strong as the day it left the factory, 2.2 litre 3 valve per cylinder

My dads got a 1991 626...2.2 litre 12 valve..

i dont know how or why but its still running well. He abuses it silly and barely ever gets it serviced, and its never broken down or anything. these mazda engines go forever
