Tire Pressure

Hi,

What pressure should I use for my 195/45/16 tires mounted on 7,5 x 16 wheels? It's a Miata 1,6 from 1990.

Unless there's someone else running the same thing who can tell you with certainty, it's tough to say - generally, 28-30 is a good starting point.. The simplest way to tell is to use the autocrosser's shoe-polish method. Take white shoe polish, and, for each tire, put a strip of shoe polish across the tread and a little onto the sidewall at three points around the circumference of the wheel (i.e. each tire should look like you drove over three white lines perpendicular to the direction you were driving) Go out and drive the car like you'd normally drive it. If you spend most of your time on the highway, drive on the highway. If you spend most of your time drifting through alpine curves (not that there are many alps in Denmark) go do that. After some driving, look at the tires. If the white is worn off to the edge of the tread, pressure is good. If the white is worn off in the middle of the tread but not all the way to the edge, let some air out. If the white is worn off all the way across the tread and a little off the sidewall, increase your pressure.
