The early V8 EFI did not inject with the firing order, per se. There are four
sets of trigger
points in the base of the distributor that send a signal to the ECU to fire off
the injectors in
pairs. 1 + 5, 2 + 7, 3 + 6, 4 + 8. With the distributor stabbed correctly and
firing #1 plug at the
index point, each cylinder gets 1/2 its gas charge on each revolution of the
crank. The second half
of the fuel charge comes just before the intake opens. [the crank makes 2
revolutions for each
intake valve opening]
