I have checked some references which state to loosen the nuts at the BASE of the MAST. Where is this nut? inside or out side the trunk?

On the outside... where the antennae sit flush at it when fully retracted.... There is also a bolt inside the trunk holding the antenna too. You need to pull out the panel in the trunk.
