Merc Specialist Garage Sale (in the UK)

This is lifted straight from this month's Mercedes Enthusiast (

"Rare Spares Those trying to track down obscure items for 1960s, '70s and '80s Mercedes might find it worthwhile to contact Richard Miles, who is closing his Mercedes repair business and getting rid of a huge stock of factory parts, mostly used.

The R J Miles Engineering premisis in Wandsworth, South London contains a wealth of hard to obtain parts, from bodywork panels for '60s Fintails and 220/300s to assorted engines and gear boxes. There are plenty of grilles, hubcaps and steering-wheels for various models, and lots of smaller parts, including for example the extremely rare parts that make up the hydraulic window lift system for the 1960s 600 Limousine.

But you'll have to hurry, because Miles is closing soon, and although he plans to move a proportion of the stock out and catalogue it for future on-line sale, what remains unsold may end up being sold by weight at the scrapyard.

He also has about 10 complete Mercs for sale, mainly running and non-running W123 estates, but there's also a 450SEL 6.9, 560SEC and a Ponton. Call him on 07789 831311."

I am not connected in any way with this company, nor have I traded with them. I just read this in the mag and thought it may prove useful to those of you trying to track down parts. Mike W126 300SE 234,000 Miles

Hi Mike,

I notice that you have a W126 300SE with 234k Miles ....... I also have a

300SE (a 7/88 build) with 178k Kilometres or about 111,000 Miles on it. I've owned it for 2 years now with a new radiator and new rear suspension spheares being my only major expenses thus far. Could I ask if you have had similar or any other major expenses with your Benz?

Best Wishes,

John Bachmayer, Adelaide, South Australia.

I had a recent strange problem with the car dying (there's a thread here somewhere) that turned out to be ignition related. I am looking to replace the discs, calipers and pads in the next 12 months as preventative maintenance. But so far no major upsets. Mike W126 300SE 234,000 Miles W115 220

People assume that Mercs are bulletproof and that they will run forever. This is true of well maintained and looked after examples; otherwise they are as prone to breaking as the next marque in my opinion. Take care of her, and she'll take care of you :) Mike W126 300SE 234,000 Miles W115 220
