BX 16v for sale

Well guys, we've finally almost finished the black 16v which means it's going up for sale. Got the last of the major oily bits sorted today, just needs a final tidy up and wash/polish and it'll be done.

There was a bit of interested when we originally got it (all those months ago!), so thought I'd just let you know :) Bit of a low down of the car:

1991 H reg phase 2 BX 16 Valve. Black with (badly) tinted rear windows. Runs well, goes well and has MoT till Oct 07 (although it's only done about 30 miles since last October). Quite a few new parts, and also a few parts tinkered with by us so it runs nicely. Paintwork is not too bad - quite a few stone chips on the front which is more noticeable due to the colour. Couple of spots of rust, absolutely nothing structural, and very minor TBH. Spec includes the full 160bhp 1.9 16v engine (aka the Mi16), e/w, pas, e/s/r, e/m (both sides), 6 gauge dash, rear sun blinds, front fogs, mint sport interior (named Monza for any experts out there), official Citroen headlamp protectors, official Citroen sunroof deflector (a rare item) and all 4 original mudflaps (a rarity). So all in all a well spec'd car for something from the early nineties, and with 160bhp and only weighing just over a tonne it dont go too bad either.

So not mint, but pretty tidy i think. And the price reflects this - £795ono.

=20 Like all BX's ugly as hell, but yours is among the best and for the=20 money a fair buy (I suppose the cambelt / waterpump have been changed,=20 the spheres refilled)

Hey Elder!! Ditch toughts about the Range. If you want something out of=20 the ordinary, comfy and which can be driven like a cat with its ass on=20 fire: get Mr Gibbs' 16V BX.

When you are tired of it: take the top of the engine and send it (along=20 with some cash) to Puma Racing or do as I did: get the engine out and=20 chop it in convienient parts (indeed there is scrap metal in a BX!).

I admit, I do quite like them. For their freak value of course.

Would it be actually possible for once to have a picture of a dry car?

I make a positive decision never to show any interest in a shiny picture of a car with a massive damp patch on the floor around it.

How do you know? It's piss wet through and the worst dog would make a good photo when wet.

But it does look surprisingly good for a weird old Cit, even when damp.

...which might affect the bodywork, but this is a BX, which you don't buy for it's appearance - you buy it for the stonking engine, the funky suspension, the fact that it's damn near depreciation proof and the fact that this one is in demonstrably good mechanical nick. Dammit, I'm still tempted myself...

I am... semi interested, anyway.

Remind me of where you're located again...

The exterior is in fair condition (it's plastic remember) and the MI16 (if with new cambelt) is pretty bomb-proof (It revs without problems to

7600 RPM but it's stopped electronically at 6750 iirc), the engine has knocksensors (which work) so bad fuel does not damage it.

Further and this from experience: few are those use often used 160 HP in the BX-chassis.

Secondly: the Mi16-engine goes for around 500 UKP, the gearbox is worth about 200 quid, so if you get a car around it which still drives for a total of 795 UKP, then maybe that car is just the ticket for somebody who likes fast cars but has limited funds.

FYI: I had one the faded red kind, bougth for 160 UKP and that car you could trow as much water on as you like, it was still too ugly even for the mercy shot.

FFS Conor, you are a miserable bastard. Why would you not show any interest? Any normal person would ask for some more photos.

In fact any normal person would have read the whole post and realised that I said "just needs a final tidy up and wash/polish and it'll be done." Which is why those picture are a few months old. I took them after giving the car a jetwash to get the layer of crap off it. Now we're finished with the messy stuff (like fecking LHM!!!!!!!!!) my co-owner is gonna spend a day giving it a proper wash/polish/valet. After that is done there will be some final pictures, probably set in an idealic country setting for everyone to see how shiny it's gonna come up.

Fair condition is probably a good description. It's straight, but not perfect. But I reckon it'll look great once polished.

This one is the earlier engine without knocksensors or cat, which means it got the full 160bhp rather than the later car's 150bhp (whether this is actually noticeable or not I dont know). Engine certianly revs past

7000rpm, something like 7200rpm IIRC. And they do run on normal 95RON unleaded (my red one does fine), although people report they run a bit better on the good shit.

We bought it, for 2 reasons - firstly to make a little bit of money for ourselves, and secondly to try and save it from either the scrapman or a 205 owner ripping it to bits for the engine. We bought it without even seeing it, because we knew whicever way we went we could get our money back, either by selling bits (engine + loom to a Pug owner for £400, plus the BX bits to other owners), or by doing it up and selling on. In actual fact we probably could have made more money by breaking it, but it's satisfying to know we've kept a relatively rare car (well under 1000 of them left) on the road for a bit longer.

I have a red faded one as my daily hack (not that I use it daily though). Currently off the road too having some surgery!

*************** We planned to do the cambelt yesterday, but after taking the cover off the cambelt looked to be in good condition, and the water pump near enough new. So we re-tensioned the belt to make sure it was ok and left it at that as we had other things to do. We can probably still sort a change out if the new owner required it.

Rear spheres have been changed as they were shot, along with a front strut return pipe. Front spheres feel ok. Accumulator sphere changed as the pressure regulator was clicking every few seconds. Unfortunately that didn't cure it. So yesterday we took to front of the car apart and changed the pressure regulator/accumulator sphere for a spare I had. Now it only clicks about every 25 secs, so pretty much perfect.

*************** Puma Racing will do wonders with this engine :D

And Carl - do you remember Matt Faulk's BX 16v - 200+bhp of normally aspirated nuttyness. That's what got me interested in these cars all those years ago :)

Southampton. About 2 miles from the airport :)

Because it is extremely good at hiding colour mismatches and scratches etc.

Any car with the ropiest paint can look a million dollars when it's photographed when wet.

Why isn't the numberplate straight! I do hope you paid more attention to the rest of the work required. Looking at the registration number - was it ever registered as an insurance right-off?
