Reset pwr seat--98 C230??

I recently bought a '98 C230. I've only had the car about 3 weeks. When I first bought the car, the power seat would function as the book says: when the door is opened or the key is in, etc. However, my wife tried the car out and when she locked it up using the remote, she must have found some 'undocumented' way to screw up the seat. Now it will ONLY operate when the key is in the ignition.

Does anyone know of a way to reset the seat so that it operates as it should?

Thanks

What the difference Herb, after berating your wife, she'll probably end up with the car among other things in the divorce and she won't care about the seat. Seriously, do the courtesy lights come on when you open the door? It may be a problem with the door switches.

Actually, I might keep her for a bit yet!! :-) Only had her 33 years yet...

Anyhow, the lights DO come on when the door is open. Nothing else seems wrong...just that the seat adjustments are dead until the key is in...????

Thanks for the reply.

Herb, Both of my MB's are from the 80's. My 300SD seat works with the driver's door open only or closed with the ignition on. My remote/lock/alarm is an aftermarket unit. I only tried to think through the problem of your seat working just not with the door open and ignition off, that illiminates the fuse. The only thng left I could think of is the door switch and it's connection to say the door's open, allow power to the seat. The door switch likely has more than 1 connection/function, power to controls and power to the courtesy lights. Sorry I can't be of more help, hope someone is more familiar with this model/age. Glad you have a sense of humor. Good luck, Doug

Doug,

What you're saying makes sense and that there may be a secondary circuit or relay circuit. Maybe I can figure it out if I can find a schematic for the model. It's not a problem, just one of those nagging things (like a wife!) that's supposed to work but bugs me since it doesn't. :-)

Thanks for your suggestions/thoughts.

I'll keep the wife, she's a great cook!
