MGB stalling problem!

Jul 20, 2003 4 Replies

Hi everyone. I have a 1979 MGB that keeps idling low and stalling out after the engine warms up a bit. It's especially bad after the electric fans have kicked on, and it only seems to happen when I'm stopped or leaving a stop in first gear. Once the car is at speed, it seems to be fine. The car has the original Zenith Stromberg carb on it and everything looks good, it's very clean inside. (It's only a few years old). I've ruled out fuel problems, because the fuel pump seems to be working fine and the carb is definitely getting fuel. I've been trying to figure this out for some time, but to no avail. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Try - a) check condenser in distributor hasn't worked loose b) earthing strap hasn't worked loose

Thanks for the suggestions! I have checked out the carburetor thoroughly and it everything seems to be in good working order. As for the distributor cap, I got a new cap and rotor a few months ago, they seem to be working well. I've decided to bite the bullet and take it to the shop, I've been wracking my brains trying to figure this one out for a while now. I appreciate the help, thanks.

Whats the point gap like.
