G2 Radio Question

Jul 27, 2005 1 Replies

I'm planning on replacing my stock radio/cassette player (the thin type with the cubby hole beneath) with the big thick Infinity radio/cassette/CD player = model MR225577.

My questions are:

Does the big radio require the underseat amplifier I see occasionally advertised on ebay, or will it work as a standalone unit?

Will my existing mounting bracket and bezel work with the new radio?

I'm trying to get all this figured out BEFORE I start pulling out the console.

My car is a '97 GS with the 6 speaker system (2 on dash, 2 in doors, and

2 in rear panels).

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Gary, the Infinity radio does require an amplifier. On the Eclipse, it is mounted under the passenger seat and is a little toy of an amp. Since the Infinity system is marginal, you may wish to look at other options. You'll have no problems finding an excellent condition CD/Receiver on ebay for less than $100 that will best the Infinity. When the stock head unit died in my GSX, I tossed the entire system in the garbage and bought some really nice used stuff CHEAP. Try lurking here for ideas:

I found out that a Precision Power A600 fits perfect in the factory amp location!
