try changing brands of oil filters and do not use fram.
I have a 94 eclipse and its ticking pretty loud its a non turbo 1.8 liter

Most of the tick I've experienced on my 3.0 engine is when it's at an overnight cold start and idling. I tried a Purolator PureONE at the last change. It seemed to really help. Not 100% eliminate but now, IF it does tick at startup, I have to listen for it. Before it always ticked...more like TTTTIIIIIICCCCCKKKKK.
It has some kind of anti-drainback valve. My understanding of the tick (on
3.0's anyway) is that air gets locked up in the lifters and secondly, the lifter oil holes were two sizes on certain 3.0's. I have no idea if you 1.8 was affected by this. I assume if you replaced the lifters and the better ones were available, they were used.The filter is a few bucks more and worth it me based on my personal experience. You can get online info at
What about Mitsu OEM filters ? Where they come from for 2.4L engine ?
I'm reading between the lines here, but I take it you lost a timing belt? I believe all Mitsu's are interference engines.
Yes I did use the improved lifters to no avail ,maybe its a valve guide or bent valve but its driving me nuts.sounds just like the lifters.
