Why do you need 2 cars? I was gonna suggest you sell the Ka cos its s*it - will this be duely ignored?

Because the idea amuses me :P. And I'd have to fix at least 10 things on the Ka before I could sell it (get bits sprayed, suspension bushes, put the door back together, get a new carpet after that jar of gherkings exploded, polish it etc.). I do like having something that will carry 4 people too (just).

Heh :) Fair enough :) Your best bet - if just for a piece of s**te RWD laff machine would probly be to pick up a s**te old Sierra. 2.0 is s***ty - but then they all are :) They're cheap as hell to fix, basic as well, good learning point no doubt... Me and few mates are planning a trip to 'The 'ring" next summer, and we're thinking of picking up a s**te old sierra for the trip :D

This cost me 600 quid a week ago. Mot'd to next May, hardly an ounce of rust and pulls like a train. They can generate some quite respectable grip on the right tyres as well.

Well, I'd need to fix things on it, and ideally I'd get a new car next September so that I have 2 years no claims bonus when it comes to insuring it.

I got a 2.6 Carlton for £350. Probably not the same league as caterham in terms of PTWR or anything but it is RWD and has lots of torque.

Book 0-60 isnt that quick (I haven't timed it) but it is pretty good for overtaking once you've got it rolling.

Strip all the heavy s*it like leather suite, carpets, aircon, soundproofing and leccy windows out and it'd be a good bit lighter/faster.

It's pretty decent to work on so far in my experience as well, lots of room under the massive bonnet.

Well, yes, but you've been talking about doing your brakes, which is probably gonna cost under £100 for about a year, and havn't been able to afford it yet. How are you going to save up for another car/insurance bill/fuel bill? Bearing in mind the insurance and fuel for anything remotely powerful is gonna be more than your Ka?

Then wait. Its less than a year. Do your brakes, and live with it, or alternatively, if its insured fully comp drive it into a ditch, rapidly, see if you can get a few more Ka's to follow you as well :)

How about a 914? Ok so rather more than a 924 but there aren't that many about, it has the engine in the right place (the middle) and it would be cheaper to insure than my Mk2 polo (odd the way insurance companies work, not only are they a lower group 2 of 5 but being older get another discount), get an early 1.7 and they are tax exempt. As for the KA drive it out to a rough area put a brick through the window and torch it, saves getting the work done and the payout should help get the Porsche.

IFAIK, the 1.7 is the one to avoid on account of it being both pig-ugly _and_ slow. I can put up with ugly and fairly rapid, but the 914 1.7 gives you the worst of both. It's only a Beetle in drag, anyway.

If you're gonna get a Porsche, get a 911. anything else isn't as good. I'm a huge fan of the "ass engined Nazi slot machine".. otherwise, forget about Porsches, and buy something amusing, like an Escort Mexico.
