They're the only ones to speak to really. At the Nissan dealership I was at a lot of the sales were motability and there was a motability specialist. For the regular sales staff it was a pain, you couldn't help motability customers without being hauled over the coals by the sales manager. "They're not buying anything, so leave them to Barry. He's trained to deal with the Motability spackers"
I'll sell a car to anyone, but in some of the dealerships I worked it was frowned upon to help reps or motability customers unless you were a 'specialist'.
Some of the most horrible people I've ever met were sales managers in large dealerships. Proper lowlife scumbags who'd sell their granny if there was a chance of profit in it. Luckily most had heart attacks by the time they reached 40.
"Tim S Kemp" gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:
You need that long...?
When you're out of work and have bills to pay being able to walk into your local (10 min walk) electrical retailer and offer your services is a useful stop gap. Especially if you can actually do the job and they all know that.
Let's say this much. On the scheme I was on Warranties put more money into the managers' pockets than the "associates'" pockets, so as an "associate" I concetrated on the sold withs and the high comission items, and hit for the storecard before checkout, if they got the storecard (money for me) add the warranty (looks cheap when you're paying for your 600 quid warranty over 5 years) then offer to deliver. Otherwise you waste your time being told the customer doesn't want warranty.
So I was in constant trouble for not selling enough warranties with my high value sales, my point was this - anyone spending cash on a Miele washing machine with a 5 yr factory warranty isn't daft enough to want Comet to come and service it. Anyone who is buying a Candy on 5 yrs credit will be wanting to ensure there are no extra bills for repairing the thing when (not if) it breaks down.
As for the instant replacement guarantee - Toasters and Kettles. Easy sell. No modern cheap brand toaster or kettle will last 3-5 years of heavy family use. Even I take them out (had three kettles under the last one) even if it is 13 quid for cover on a 20 quid kettle.
I did an Xmas at Dixons in the late 80's as I needed work. We set a new store up from scratch, closed the old one (next door), and=20 opened for Xmas.=20
We had a conveyor for large items, it was from the upstairs warehouse,=20 to the back of the stairs.
The angle was all wrong, and you wouldn't believe how well a then, brand=20 new and very expensive widescreen CRT television bounces, and the noise=20 it makes, or how the back stairs is so well insulated that the customer=20 knew nothing about it.

Which is why no one will deal with you!
Either you are spending your own money or you are not, which is it?
Because they see so many people who do the same thing and lie about wanting to buy and having the money.
You as one customer is going to have NO effect that is noticable, so stop trying to think you have any influence - because you don't. Maybe this is what annoys you so much, being told "NO".
Because they can't shift them.
They can't sell them either.
There is also a difference between a time wasting test pilot and someone that wants to buy a car and will agree to do so.
You should speak to the sales people at my local Lookers. While I was picking my car up from a service one of them was telling me how they made a lot of money on the side. The sales people overpriced the cars, then offered a rubbish trade-in, but the trade-in car would be bought at a huge staff discount and lower value. That was fixed up in the workshop and sold privately or in an auction by the sales people! The mechanics got a cut for the parts and for putting a 12month MOT on. Maybe your local garage can get you a car this way. They were making quite a bit of money this way.
That sort of thing might explain why a woman I knew got 3 washing machines from that lot in succession, all with the same corner damaged as though the machine had been dropped on that corner.
Because a month or two down the line when they are ready to order they won't be back. I know I've been fobbed off like this befor and ended up going 25 miles out of the way to the next nearest dealer. Quite frankly most people in sales know that it's worth there time on a £17k perchance to simply be polite and helpful and those that don't tend not to last, thankfully the useless dealer has lost it's franchise since then, probably got a lot of complaints from people like me to there head office and there sales figures were probably down as a result.
Take a look through an Argos catalogue and it's full of that kind of stuff.
