BP Ultimate.

Any one found a BP station selling it? It si BP's answer to Optimax, and the V-Power(100 Ron) that they sell on the continent. Ultimate is also 100 Ron I've been told.

Not found a BP stationhere with it yet. Will keep looking.

Filled up the Carlton with it today at the BP garage on the A4 heading out of town just past the Hammersmith Flyover. 83.9p / litre. Can't report on economy yet, didn't reset the economy meter on the trip computer as I'm doing an overall average for the Carlton since I've been using it for courier work (well, since I replaced the battery the other day!), which is just shy of 30mpg (which is about 80% heavy stop-start town traffic, and 20% motorway runs in and out of town), so not too bad.

I might try a tank full if it comes in at the 83.*p that peter found it for, £1 is pushing it a bit.

Might make the bosses E36 AMG go properly though, or the other bosses Ferrari, or the sales guys M3.

Yeah. It's not going to turn the Carlton into a supercar, and also, even though it's a real good runner, I'd much prefer to run it on an engine from new. Seeing those pictures of the valves with and without BP Ultimate (or Shell Optimax) really does make me think that if they're already like that then how much difference can it make? I mean, can the extra cleaning agents in the fuel actually remove crap that's accumulated over time, or would they really only be more effective as a preventative measure??

I might see if the BP Ultimate diesel works out as cost-effective in the van (when I get it back) and/or in the Audi (fingers crossed - going to look at one that sounds absolutely spot on tomorrow, but won't shout about it until it happens!).

Hmm Ultimate Diesel, might work OK in the Eco Speedster, if GM ever get off their arses and make it happen.

A Turbo Diesel Lotus Elise good for 160MPH, and nearly 100MPG.

My wife filled her 33 with it the other day at 82.9 / litre.

Reports so far are that it's as good as, if not better, than Optimax. And the BP station here is more convenient to get to.

Might try it in the 75 this week :-)

don't bother see the bp web site it's only 97 ron basically re-badged super unleaded

I recently changed the plugs on my SD1 which is run on Optimax. They were spotless - the insulator was near white and had only lost some of it gloss. I've never seen plugs so clean.

That'll be why we use it, then.

Especially in the 33 - engine designed in the early 70s, delivers a relatively high output for it's size and age. Plus, I had the FI system set up for super, anyway.

Yeah. Same here. Twenty year old Saab engine that works OK on 95ron, but the fuel flap recommmends 98 Ron unleaded.

Tried my Nearest BP station that the BP website said was stocking Ultimate. they didn't have it, so I just stuck £10 in of Super to tide me over.

Asked at the counter about when they were getting Ultimate in. "Whats that? Ultimate what?". Hmm, not good. Ultimate Unleaded? "Oh don't know, never heard of it, we aren't BP here (despite all the BP logos all over the station, and that it was a BP before it was refurbed, it is now a Safeway becuase they run the shop), so maybe we won't get it" But the BP Website says you stock it. "Hmm, don't know".

So decided to go to ASDA for some shopping. Remembers there is a BP on the way, and decides to nip in.

Knocks exhaust of the hanger on the speedbump heading into the station. Makes mental note to not go there again.

Sticks £20 of ultimate in. Tank full now on a Mix of Super and Ultimate, instead of the usual mix of Premium and Super.

Complains about speed bump while there.

Coming home, checked the boost gauge. boosting the same if not lower as on Normal Premium.

Price for Premium 74.9p Price for super at the BP/Safeway 81.9 Price for Ultimate at the other BP 80.9

Maybe try another tank, and see if it makes a difference, seeing as they reckon it starts working straight away.

Thing is I've always seen Octane rating on petrol pumps, but there wasn't one on the Ultimate pump, nor a Ketane rating on the Ultimate Diesel pump.

But the BP/Safeway had the usual 95 and 97 ron labelling on it's premium and super.

It probably already is Ultimate, even if it's not advertised as such/denied by the staff. There are reports of a lot of denials on the 'net for some strange reason.

The 'Ultimate' over here is only 97 ron anyway, we're not getting the

100 version :/

Yeah, I've heard that.

So Ultimate isn't that Ultimate, but is a penny cheaper than BP SUL from a different garage a mile away, but a penny dearer than Sainsbury's SUL which is BP SUL shipped by Sainsbury's?

Weird.

Why would that be though? Are there any laws to stop petrols from having too high a RON?

Just different Taxation brackets/Duty brackets for the different base fuels.
