If BMW won't replace it why can't you claim it on your RAC warranty?

And not only that, I believe that the RAC warranty has something like a £1k limit per claim, and it can be any VAT registered mechanic/garage doing the work. So I guess that they'd pay the first £1k if it was over that, so by getting a good used engine, and a local mechanic/garage to do the work, you could cut the repair costs down significantly.

But............how long have you had the car for? You paid top dollar for that (as I'm sure you were made aware....), and certainly if it's within 3 months, the dealer would be legally obliged to "make good" or refund your money, I think.

That's the one. She's been getting very pissed off with it recently because of the dodgy engine, and a so called specialist garage saying they've fixed it when they really hadnt! So it's been off the road for 2 weeks whilst I've sorted it out myself - so that involved a new, later, stronger, improved engine with newish clutch (1500 mile old EBC jobbie that we got cheap) and new cambelt. And I have to say it drives fantastically now.

So now it's fixed part of her is saying get rid of it whilst it still works, but her heart is telling her to keep it as its such a nice car. Personally I'd like her to keep it, get some nice alloys off a Yaris and stick with it, but we shall see!

I havent got a 325, was just suggesting it :) MR2 is in good condition - front splitter needs touching up as it has some stone chips, and it could really do with new front and rear bumpers and they're starting to show their age, but I'm on the lookout for someone breaking a mica blue car at the mo. Its done around 105k, and I've just put a new engine in which I got from Lauren off of IMOC, so now runs great!

She's still not sure though, and I hope she doesnt decide to sell it, coz I love it!

I'd miss cruise control, but, heh, bugger that, one of my possible commuter routes is almost entirely back roads. Not something the otherwise proficient Accord relishes really.

Well she's just driven it (for the first time in 2 weeks) and came in with a big smile saying hse's now keeping it! Guess I did a good job then. Now on the lookout for some bumpers and a new set of alloys!

Well there's a few cheap ones about at the moment. Red T-bar with leather and Magnes exhaust in Chester. MoT failure but lots of work done on it for only £200 on IMOC forum. If it was nearer I'd probably have it. The exhuast alone is worht that!

phone bmw customer relations and ask some for goodwill towards the concern, you;d be surprised they should come out with a hefty percentage as its a known issue and more than likely should have been dealt with under a recall/warranty.

dont have a no for them but contact your local dealer and ask for their no.

just remember if they ask this is your 5th bmw and your planning on chopping this in for a shiney new 3 series next year :) :)

No, but you must be some sort of weirdo if you want it in something like a Mk1 MR2.

I had one - great car, would maybe like another... but it wasn't something to cruise along in.

It was something for caning flat out down country lanes with the roof panels out. :-)

Correct (although lets be fair to the MR2, it's not bad at the motorway stuff, it just relishes back roads).

Therein is my quandary. My commute to work is currently just under 30 miles, over 25 on motorways or dual carriageways. I *can* make it a back road option if I prefer... kinda... just about.
