Eh?

The Renault Laguna Dynamique Techno (bloody long name) has a turocharged 2l engine and makes 165 horses. Hardly seems worth it...

like the peugeot 2.0 turbo with 150hp? I bet its nice and smooth, besides, a

140hp 2litre engine +25hp forced induction, doesnt seem so bad.

Or the MG Rover 75 Turbo with 150bhp...

It's done for company tax purposes. It makes sense for businesses to run low powered turbos rather than 2.5 V6 models, etc.

I would consider a lpt, all out speed is not that important to me.

which is a 1.8... and has been pitched to the same power as the 2.0 was, between the 1.8 and the 2.5.

RICA have a 195bhp reprogram for it - wonder how durable that'll be.

Nice thing about turbocharging is there are many reasons to do it. Light pressure turbos mean you can keep a high compression small capacity engine for economy and tax reasons but give it some low / mid range poke. High pressure turbos normally need lower compression so you lose out on effeciency but can really up the boost and get lots of air in. Hence the

2.3/2.4/2.5 volvos ranging from 140bhp (NA) to 300bhp (2.5R Turbo) with various stages in between, also Saabs...

Er...

There are LOADS of low-pressure Turbo cars around. Volvo, Peugeot, Rover, SAAB, etc.

You get all the benefits of the Turbo (wide powerband, nice drive, etc.) without the negatives of a high-pressure setup (engine needs strengthening, high emissions means high tax, etc.)

If they'd just heavily tweaked the 2.0 16v to give it 165bhp, then it would be a nasty revvy thing.

Ok... yes and no.

S80 / XC90 have the T6 motor, 2.8l, sequential turbos, 280bhp standard. Very flexible and massively torquey, remarkably nice to drive in the S80 and sounds as good as it goes - slow off the line due to 4 speed autobox, front wheel drive and heavy car! Turning circle is a joke due to transverse in-line six with an autobox on the end....

S60R/V70R have 2.5l 300bhp 5 cylinder motor (KKK turbos, rest of the petrol range are Mitsubishi, Diesel IIRC is a garrett).
