How do i turn back mileage?

Keep driving until the display reads 888,888 miles, then obtain a 10W laser. By carefully aligning the laser beam with the appropriate elements of the 7 segment display you should be able to selectively extinguish them until it reads what ever mileage you want.

Quite.

Here's my suggestion, put the car into a freezer overnight, the electronic memory won't stay viable at -40c

And yes, that doesn't work either. ;)

Out of interest, why do you want to wind back the mileage?

I have a special 'key' which will do what you want. It also works on fruit machines.

Why would you want to wind back a Fruit Machine? surely you want to wind it forward so it thinks it's time to pay out. :)

No.

As I said - out of interest, why? I'm genuinely intrigued as to the purpose.

I can hazard a guess - I suppose we all can. He wants to be able to sell it with an MOT and it'd be embarrasing if the MOT had a higher mileage than the car.

I've seen that before. I was looking at a Citroen ZX (in Newcastle, natch) and the guy was bullish as hell that it was worth the money, no haggling etc. Then I remarked that not only did the speedo not work, it was also reading 12,000 less miles than the MOT it passed two weeks previously...

Suddenly he was very disinterested in selling his car ;)

Uninterested, surely? Disinterested's something completely different.
