there was another jap meet at bluewater last night, getting a few supra's and skylines down there now. saw a lovely supra last night in black. i love the sound of the 3 litre straight 6 with a nice exhaust, want one! :)
Don't we all mate. Can't believe I didn't spend more time looking at that 3 litre turbo manual MK3, before I bought the Celica. A whole litre more to get power from, and no 4wd losses.
Bloody jelly moulds. The Mk IV barely has its top button undone, whereas the Mk III has at least the top three, and the Mk III 2.5 TT has four, a chest wig and a medallion the size of most car's wheels.
Some weekends I've been down there and it's totally gridlocked - the police just close the main road along the seafront. Makes you wonder what the point is - total nightmare trying to get to the casinos down there. Of course, you do get to have a good laugh at some of the cars - the best one I've seen so far is waaay too rude old Volvo, wish I could remember what model, but it was big, old and very colourful. Unfortunately, most people don't seem to have the creativity to muster something like that.
Insurance (my Coupe is Group 18 - the Supra would cost me approximately double !), running-costs, head-gaskets (only on the NA engine IIRC ?), and they're *CRAZILY* overpriced - you'll pay somewhere over ten grand for a decent 10 year old Turbo !!!!
Why do you think so many Toyotas get modified. When you can buy official Toyota approved TTE and TRD parts from independant suppliers cheaper than you can buy OEM parts from the Stealership.
And the independants have to import them themselves from Germany (TTE) or America/Japan (TRD).
There was one at the cruise in Scarborough a couple of weeks back. Was also black and was SERIOUSLY awesome. The dump valves were so loud, and the exhaust made the floor shake, dunno what power it was running but there was a lot of non-standard looking bits under the bonnet. Also, another Civic Type R with a aftermarket exhaust (think its the blitz one) that sounded like a fighter yet when he revved it hard - that was rather cool.
