I want to build a proper hotrod.

I wanted to do something fatter and less fins. Like a Willys Coupe, but not so obvious. Minors have been done that way, seen a couple Volvo PV544's from Sweden (common as s*it there). Wanted more 40's than 50's style.

Thinking something a little smoother and more refined than that. More mile deep black, and less satin black and primer.

How about a London Taxi ?

Plenty of rust free examples about, easy V8 swap, RWD and a chassis so you can do what you want to the body.

Often though about it, but something doesn't quite work shape wise for me. And Bez from the Happy Mondays/Blackgrape has a pretty silly one, with a monster sound system, as does I think Steven Fry for when he is in the city.

What about Saab 99 or a Estelle, I would have thought that was more up your street, tho finding something interesting that is not as rotten as a carrot is going to be difficult.

How about making a spaceframe then some GRP panels, you could then use nice modern running gear.
