Idling issue...

Probly should be in Uk.rec.cars.maintenence, but i'm not subscribed to that right now and it seems like a faf :) And this is really just an excuse to post from my new 1mb broadband connection :D (but the problem is real)

Righty, last 2 times i've been out in my 405 ('93 Mk2 1.6i cat) i've started it up (from cold) and its idled a bit high, it usually does anyway till its warmed up, but the idle hasn't dropped down to below 1k revs like it normally does, its been hovering at like 1100rpm. Then, if once its warm, i switch it off, and switch it on, it idles fine. I drove to the suprmarket, it got to normal temp (just under or on 90c), still over idling, then i turned it off, went and bought beer, came out, started it and it idled fine.

Any ideas? No management light is coming on or anything?

suprmarket,

Stepper motor abit gummed up, or throttle body dirty, or at worst, the idle switch on the end of the stepper motor rod is playing up, but usually failure results in either a dead stall or more likely, revs stuck at 3000+.

suprmarket,

Just had a thought. Check that Duct-tape that's covering the hole on the front of your manifold. If yuo have an air-leak into the engine, it will result in high-idle. Check all your K&N hoses and stuff too !

When I saw the subject, all I could think of was "Bloody Students, idle the lot of them". :)
