Tyres & Wheel query

Oct 07, 2003 5 Replies

I'm currently running 15 inch wheels with 195 65 R 15 91 V tyres.

2 questions:

1 - can I put on 225 55 R 15 tyres on these wheels?

2 - if so, what effects can I expect - speedo accuracy etc?

thanks,

A lot depends on the width, you really need min 6 1/2 in width for a 225.

Should be close on the rolling circumference though.

Of course.

If they're too wide for the wheels (225 tyre really needs an 8" rim. You can prolly get away with a 7" rim) then they'll come off (!) when you're cornering hard. They're 3cm wider than your existing tyres - you will aquaplane more in the wet, and they may not physically fit under your wheel arches.

What car are we talking about ?

"Speedo accuracy etc" will be unaffected, as they're almost exactly the sameradius as your existing tyres.

6.5" rim will be too narrow for a 225 tyre, surely ?

Possibly, must admit although I read it right, I was thinking 205s Sorry
