You never know - £420, reserve met, just under 10 hours to go, as I write. And stuff like engines don't have as wide a market as whole cars, and other stuff with a much wider market, so tend to attract less last-minute bidders. One thing though - what's the point in referring to it as a "4motion" engine - it's the same V6 (or VR6) as a FWD one, isn't it?

That's what you'll hope. In reality, it might come down a marginal amount, if at all.

I've got a feeling early ones were 1.8, and they changed it to 1,9 at some point. Possibly in the same way the 1.4 became 1.5 in the 106/AX, and 1.6 Ford diesels in the early/mid-80s, became 1.8s shortly after. Or the TDs might have all been 1.9s, and just the n/a diesels (Pug 205s) were 1.8.

Nah, the 205s were all the 1769cc engine, turbo or not. There was always a 1.7/1.8 and a 1.9 XUD - eg the BX had both in NA, but the smaller one with a turbo. Later models (eg xantia, 306) got the 1.9 with a turbo. Dunno what the 405 had - 1.9 NA, but the turbo?

Side note - I think the D-Turbo might have been called TRD on the other side of the channel, but got renamed over here for obvious reasons!

405 had both. Mk1's (Up to July 1992) were 1.8TD, (Aug 1992 onwards) Mk2's were 1.9TD.

Bigger brakes, for obvious reasons. The better your brakes, the quicker you get from A to B.

If your brakes aren't upto the job (which they never are, unless you drive like a Nun), then more BHP is gonna make them even worse !

That would be an expensive project, though, as you'd have to convert it to carbs or buy a custom ECU. Don't really see the point as all it will do is make a really nicely balanced car into a nose heavy, under-steering shed.

I suspect he will be for some time by the time he gets the V6 engine he's bought working in a Mk2 Golf.

You can't work out how to mount an intercooler, but reckon you could strip and engine to fit oversized pistons or wedge a VR6 lump in a MkII?

Its not actually a difficult engine to fit once you get a VR6 carriage and a front mount from what i've seen and been advised on from other vr6/four motion engine totting mk2 golf owners. The difficult part is wiring the bugger up which I will probably end up paying some poor sod to do once I have fitted the engine ;)

I can't wait to hear this son of a bitch start up with a lovely v6 roar, it is definitely going to be a mission to do it though! It was either the engine or some Porsche turbo alloys+5 stud conversion.

Only if the vehicle they're fitted to, ever runs under its own steam again, and is fully insured, with the mods taken into account and declared - insurers *love* modded suspension.

He's probably looked at it, can't decide which orifice looks nicer, and can't understand why his c*ck, when inserted into either, feels like it's playing to the Albert Hall...

I think from what I read it is a 2.8 24v version that puts out 205 bhp rather than 160(ish), so it is quite a bit more powerful and tuneable, but it is a relatively new engine. However some americans with big pockets are already getting 600+ bhp and sub 9 sec 1/4 mile times.

You would expect that but during the conversion you have the option of using vibratech mounts which hold the engine firmly in place. However of course handling is reduced but not to the extent of causing the car to handle badly.

I've emailed the guy but still havn't heard from him as yet, hopefully I will be able to pick it up on the weekend *rubs hands*.

I wonder (just out of interest), what else will this engine fit into?

It's a f*ck off great boat anchor of an engine in a relatively light FWD shell. Of course it'll handle like a puppy on ice.

You seem to have forgotten one small detail, though. You don't have the gearbox for it.

He'll be the one rubbing his hands as he's shifted a useless lump of scrap iron onto some teenage dreamer.

A MkIV Golf 4-motion.

It's not that difficult to physically bolt in place once you've modified the subframe and chassis leg but it's going to be expensive once you've found all the parts missing from the engine plus all the other new parts you're going to need.
