Yes thanks, but I'm responding to Vamp, not Al. I'm not sure what you're getting at seeing as his post was not referring to the same thing I was (he was referring to the *actual* top speed, I was referring to Vamp's pretend top speed).
"Semi-scientific" is irrelevant with regard to what I said as you don't actually know how far the speedo mis-reads, but you can normally expect it to be *at least* 10% out at such a high speed. At 160mph, that means you'd be reading anywhere between 175 to 180ish mph.

Too right. The engine should be at least 40% of the car's weight :-)

Yeah, but it's currently SORN'd till I can afford to get a few bits and pieces fixed. :-(
Waiting till this shit is sorted out - house is going on the market soon, so once that's sold (and I move back with my mother (!) - just for a short time hopefully), and bills paid I can concentrate on the future.
Actually, we've been pretty lucky with the weather here - only 1 or 2 days of heavy snow.
Or two bikes trapped side by side. Which is a better description of any

It may very well be a fuzzy, soft fruit with a stone inside, which would explain just why it makes such a dreadful internal combustion engine?
...So when will you be turning up with a case full of tenners?

What are you being given for it in part-ex?
Judging by his previous post, where he said
"I got 3k as a trade in, reckon I'd have advertised at 5k, snapped up
4k+, taken 3k+ after a week or so..."I'd guess at £3k ;)
Yeah, that might offer some form of clue.
This:
Heh the joys of Volvo ownership... In the last six weeks it's been discs (80 quid), pads (60 quid), tyres (180 quid). In the next week there's a 90k service (that's the one with the belts - so no change from 400 quid, unless I go main dealer than no change from 600 quid) and a wheel bearing...
Ouch. I stopped using main dealers years ago and found a local mechanic. A rather good one, lives a mile away from me and is a member of Subaru's rally crew.
You are quite right, it was Ronny. Bugger, might have more trouble staying infront of an A4 Quattro turbo (15 years newer and all that).
NICE !
Just out of interest, what sort of ballpark price did you pay ?
I looked into them, but found some *wildly* varying prices - and some seemed
*far* too cheap ! Do they depreciate more than original BMWs ? Because average Joe doesn't know what they are ?
:)
£15k
This one:
There is no point in buying one unless you are up for maintaining it as the £70k car it is, feeding it the finest oils and petrols on a regular basis, keeping its pillows fluffed etc, which very much limits the market...
Suits me :)

if i were to have a BMW it would have to be an alpina! can't be much more than the running cost of my MR2, well maybe a tad more :)
Yeah, mine is still smoothish, but a little clunky at times.
I've swapped the cable bushes on the gearbox, going to get the fluids swapped, and I have an ST205 gear lever to fit (essentially a quick/shortshift) to get rid of any play in the lever end bushes.
