Plus, once you're rolling, quicker in a straight line :) Less weight, less power losses in the drivetrain/transmissiony bits :D
So..........find a rearend right off NSX.............find a Rover
800.......?Actually, find an old Rover 200 :D One of them pointy ones thats rusty :)
I don't think it fits in an 800. Can't remember why, but I've read this discussion somewhere else.
Yes, and there are other advantages.
Don't get me wrong - RWD is clearly better from a "drivers" point of view.
But FWD is "good enough" to the extent that I have no wish to change.
The 3.2 has balancer shafts; or something similar on the 'rear bank' of the engine. When you bolt it into an 800 (yes, the 3.2 fits fine and bolts up to the original PG2 gearbox), you can't get the driver's side driveshaft in because there's a lump of engine block in the way.
Not insurmountable, but would cost money and (Stewart IIRC) who tried it (with Legend tune of the engine) wasn't about to spend money on an
800...Waste of a rearend writeoff NSX though!
OTOH; there is enough room behind the seats of a 3dr metro for the 2.7 and box mounted transversely with a di-dion suspension setup....
you what mate? you seen the boot in a carlton?
Yes, not much bigger than a FWD Mk3 Cavalier :)
Pah! I can tell you exactly why they explode...
...accountants, BEAN COUNTERS...
Yep.
And if the Carlton was FWD, the boot would (could) be even bigger !
doesnt really make that much difference tbh, only with smallish cars.
Of course it does - RWD needs a transmission tunnel, rear diff, and some sort of rear axle thing. All takes up plenty of space.
Should be interesting to see if the RWD Rover 75 has a smaller boot than the FWD model :)
(I just want an excuse to play with a V8 Rover).
Oh - anyone else catch what those damned Yanks are getting? $9000 puts RWD and a V8 into your 3dr Focus - from Ford. :)

No, it gives you the /bits/ - you still need to fit them! (according to this month's Evo which arrived yesterday)
