My latest shed...

Capri 2L Laser. Yes, another one.

Two owners, last owner 20 years. Full ford service history to 1993 then independant Ford specialist since then. Last service was a major one 6 weeks ago - been serviced every 6000 miles since new. 3" thick service history. Even though its got 174,000 on the clock and is on the original running gear, apart from unleaded valve seats, it drives like a dream and engine oil pressure is just slightly below that of my reconditioned engine when new. Boot full of spares and enough service items to last a decade. Interior is all original, seats are mint under the covers and the original stereo still works.

Only downsides: The guy liked stickers and reflectors - the car was covered in them. They've all gone now. Oh and he liked red and yellow paint too. Drivers wing looks ropey although some of that is down to the fact he hammerited over repairs. He reckoned it is good for another 2 year which I think is about 3 years too optimistic. Passenger wing is saveable.

Thankfully the guy loved covering everything in grease. There is grease absolutely everywhere. As a result, the brake pipes are the originals and even have the factory paint on them and the only rot is in the wing tips.

Not sure where I'm going with it yet but at £500 with 11 1/2 month MOT and 3 months tax, it was a steal.

So much for not getting another one...

That looks in Ok condition for the age. I'm sure that's an easy quick profit if you wanted to sell it on

I had one of those years ago - bought as a stopgap at auction to tide me over Xmas when the SD1 was broken and awaiting a part. Would have been somewhere around 10 years ago. Went to the auction with 250 quid to buy anything that took my fancy which was taxed and MOT'd for at least two months. So got a Capri 2 litre auto. Which had had lots of money spent on it - all new brakes including pipes and master cylinder, and a new carb. Went extremely well - even although an auto. Only downside was holes everywhere inside from a removed sound system. Sold it at a profit after tidying things.

I think the later hatchback Capri with the 2 litre engine rather better than an MGB GT. And surprisingly similar to drive.

In the condition its in, it was about £300-£400 underpriced.

Ewwww.

It was?

No, it definitely wasn't 'a steal'.

It'd be cheap if it was a V6.

I'm on a mission to buy this, possibly.

It'd not be roadworthy at that price if it was a V6, even 6 or 7 years ago.

Paris blue...nice. Not a special so no LSD but it also won't try and shove you in a hedge on bends either.

I take it you know everything to look out for?

Hit the nail on the head there.

It really is a worthless heap of s**te.

Now you're talking s**te.

I think that car says it all about Crapi owners.

As did the one with the bonnet mural.

Tasteless tat for the working classes.

I re-shelled a V6 Capri on the path, by myself, in under 3 days.

I'll post the pics one day.

Ebay seems to suggest that Lasers with no tax/Mot go for £300-£500. A decent one went for over £2k. Shows what you know.

Nice one Conor, I'd love one of these one day - takes me back to my yoof, cruising around in my mates 1.6 (LS I think?).

Erm, I think you've just proven my point, really.

It may have some kind of tax and MOT on it, but it's an utter shed needing a lot of paint, wheels stripping etc.

So, £500 doesn't look so cheap now.

YMMV, especially as you have a perversion for overpriced heaps of tat, too.

How do you know that when you've only just bought it?

I wouldnt say an utter shed TBH. But what the hell would you know about proper cars? All you're worried about is your next boring repmobile. Yawn

YMMV? Hmmm, both my 'heaps of tat' are worth more now than what I paid for them. Feel free to keep on replying though, as I'm sure you will, you're just making it very clear you know f*ck all and that you really dont belong in this group.

Well, that, and my 75, oh, and the Ducati and BMW.

That's what we all tell ourselves when we're spending money on old cars. It's hardly ever the case when it actually comes to selling, though.

*shrugs*

Given the list of vehicles owned in my sig, I'd say I'm more qualified than most.
