That's relative of course. It *is* possible to keep it on the boil but you'd only use first, second and occasionally third gear inside the speed limit. From one perspective it is overgeared.

Well, thats not really it, cos by the time I've got out of the village the gauge is well off the bottom anyway, and I bet the oil gets warmer loads quicker than the coolant, been that it's the friction/movement of what is in the oil that heats up the block and coolant and stuff.
