Latest shed mini-review...

Last night I picked up a five door M reg Toyota Starlet 1.3GLi off a trader mate for peanuts.

Surprisingly quick for a 1.3 8v, (but then what isn't compared to a KA ;-) ), and sensible miles.

Atypical earlier jap anomalies, as in indicator and wiper stalks are on the 'wrong side', and it has manual windows and an electric roof.

Brakes seem very good, but throwing it through bends quickly instills a sense of impending doom in comparison to the feeling of surefootedness the KA displays.

Anyway, it was dirt cheap... which was nice.

What about your shed though? I've had problems with mine, as someone's put the lock on upside-down. And there's a huge spider in there :-/

On the upside, it'll seat about 6 comfortably, and costs next to nothing to run. But it's very slow.

OK, I'm bored and have finally lost it...

Think about it. Ergonomically they're on the better side for a r/h drive car. You've just got used to them being on the 'wrong' side for r/h drive car. They were switched to the left of the wheel by the british and later by the japs to suit the export markets. It was cheaper than making both l/h and r/h drive column switches. Mike.

Is that the front or rear wheel drive starlet?

The clue is in the original post.

I have no idea what year they switched, so stating "M reg" doesn't mean anything.

Seriously - how many superminis were still running RWD in 1995?

I don't actually have a shed... and I need one really, as I've recently decided I'm bored with pies, and that cycling is a good alternative.

Shockingly, I feel a lot better for both this and the more healthy diet I've also adopted over the last two months.

Anyway, I want to buy a new road bike (1) soon to compliment the mountain bike cum hybrid I've already got, but I'm not keen to spend the kind of money I'm looking at on something that then gets left outside to rot when not in use.

(1) 'ee, in my day they were called a 'racer'.

Front wheel drive - basically the same to look at as a Turbo, but five door and no stick on tat.

Well they've been FWD since 1990... a quick look at Parkers and the like would have revealed that...

I can get something a lot bigger for that kind of money... not got one at the mo, but looking to get another bike (motorbike), in the near future too, so will probably look for something big enough to be classed as workshop sized.

I saw a P reg Mitsbushi Colt today for sale for £800. Don't know if that's good or not, but a housemate of mine had a Colt GTi and said she really rated it (ok, this may have been a cooking model one, which may be s**te in comparison).
