IIRC it's done about 70000 miles, belonged to a computer company geezer, hasn't been thrashed, I did some work on it a while back and it's a nice thing. I know it's spent more time being fettled by Nissan than driven by the bloke who owns it, it does drive rather well as well. I should have my grubbys on it in the next few days. Will keep you informed, post pics etc.

She changed her mind to a swift gti now, economy is her new word of the day. Crash safety obviously isn't.

No! Don't tempt him - i can't buy his car for another year or so yet :) But then, i would get to have a go in a Skyline...and i could always just get the Xsara VTS i've been hankering for.......yea tempt him!

THE WHAT?

"It'll be right"

Xsara VTS. Same engine as 306 GTi-6 (2.0 16v 167bhp), nice handling, nice interior.

Why?

No 6 speed box though :(. Still, wouldnt say no Quite rare too, only recall ever seeing a couple.

Anyways, i'm off to Wales to marshall the Rally GB. Lets hope i dont get carried away and stack it on one off the stages ;) ttfn

Yea but i'm cool with that - also GTi-6's command a much higher premium to buy... and i've read/been told the 6 speed box is a bit dissapointing. Although it would be damn cool :)

But you're also right about the exclusivity, you don't see them very often, and that GTi6 engine is pretty reliable now, as in its various forms its been around for a while so all the bugs have been ironed out.

Oddly enough just as i sent this reply i got a advertising mail from Citroen offering me amazing deals on a sporty new Xsara :) They still make the VTS it would seem, i thought they'd finished, obviously not :)

Does it have the funny suspension? Would be a good Q-Car mind. Especially if you pumped the suspension up high :P.

306 Rallye's the one you want ;-)

Nah, if i had a 306 GTi6 it would be my daily driver too, so i'll take the weight penalty and get a few more toys :) I'd have a nice light weight 205

1.9 GTi for fun and events ;)

Absolutely - i don't need aircon and crap - what i've never had i'll never miss :) (i have leccy windows and sunroof now, so i might miss them...). I'd love one, but they're a bit pricy and very rare, also example quotes have shown me insurance on a 306 GTi is higher than a Xsara VTS - so i'd imagine it would be the same for the Rallye. And white cars are hard to keep clean :)

Hydraulics? No, just standard PSA - struts up front, and torsion bars/trailing arms on the back.

Why did you say 'THE WHAT?' when i first mentioned it? Me thinks someone mis-read and thought i said 'Saxo VTS' :). Although, if i could find one for reasonable money i'd be tempted... they're very underrated because of their image, although i'd rather have a 106 GTi...

Get a black one then!!!

Thats like getting a 106 Rallye thats not white - sacrilage!

Shoot, get her the best condition Golf GTI you can get, and worry about the badge later! Stick a 16v badge on the 8v one if you need to!

Hmm.

If she wants a Golf (!) get the best condition one you can, and worry about the 16v or 8v bit afterwards.

How's the 30v engine layed out? Is it 5 valves per cylinder? Audi like doing things in 5's, don't they?
