Prace bets now.....

Ah but it depends on where you shop. I found this out when looking for a rear wheelbearing for the wifes' Mitsi FTO

Rear hub assembly (can't get wheelbearing seperately)

Mitsubishi Dealers £249+VAT. FTO Owners Club: £68.

I wouldn't dare go near a dealer :-)

FWIW, they quote a rear bearing as £28, a front hub assy including bearing as £78

No, but someone at work has an AMG E55 I reckon I could get that down to

1mpg if he'd let me.

If its a supercharged one then yes, the W210 NA V8 is actually quite frugal, as 5.5l cars with autoboxes go.

OK, so speed isn't just unimportant, its completely irrelevant.

Oh I don't know, sometimes I see 10 or 15 cars on my 20 mile journey to work in the morning, but its usually not that busy (c:

Anyway, traffic conditions aside, I still like I6s. Can't get an MX-5 with 6 cylinders I6 or otherwise so easily though.

Right enough - parts prices for my Mazda make my eyes water - £177+VAT for a front wheel bearing for example. However I'd expect to be left stranded in a deserted layby by a Lexus less often.

HFM! my BMW wheel bearing was like 28 quid!

If we're just on about instant MPG readouts, and not actual usage of a full gallon then even my Scorpio 24v would happily go down to 0.8 mpg at full pelt. Couldn't get it to actually do 0.8 mpg, managed 15 mpg a couple of times, but 0.8 would just be silly.

My 8v Integrale was easily capable of low single figures, that could drink a tenners worth of unleaded in about 10 minutes when being thrashed. Far worse than the Rangie.

The Excursion has been known to average 4 mpg across town..

They're still bloody expensive compared to the likes of Euro Car Parts.

There must be an Jap equivalent by now?

I know one local motor factor tends to keep stuff on the shelf for these; when I had a Mk1 MR2, they had things in stock that the local Toyota dealer didn't, when I needed some bits for the ignition system.

And main dealer prices if you need work done on them.

I've bought stuff from Cheap Toyota Parts before. He orders stuff from Toyota Japan and has it air mailed over cheaper and quicker than Toyota dealers can get it in the container.

Proper parts with Toyota part number, in Toyota box, not knockoff.

Yeah, with the GT4, oil filter, dealership, we will have it tomorrow, local place down the road, got a box of these genuine toyotas, had em years, never sold any. Kept me going for a few oil changes.

Yeah, that is downside. I still have VAGcom on my laptop, and the cable in my bag. It's OBDII I think, so a code reader/resetter might be available though.

mate of mine managed 8mpg in his MR2 Turbo on a track day once, not bad for

500bhp at full whack most of the time, i say most of the time obviously he aint on full throttle for the bends :)

I remember being disappointed that my Carlton wouldn't read below 7mpg.

Dunno if that was the meter or the limit of what the injectors could supply..

The only justification was "I've got to buy an Alfa for my daily car, or Dervy will keep mocking me" I reckon ;-)

As for Carls car, well it's not like it's a V8 Hummer, let's get some perspective here people, it'll still manage 35mpg I reckon with Carls brand of relaxed (slow) driving :-p

The cambelt alone on the Vee was £1,200 at a dealer :-) Cheapest known to be good specialist was £850 or £900 if you wanted to change the plastic impellered waterpump as well, and for another £200 you can even have a clutch as well! Doing the clutch at the same time as all the bits are out sounds cheap, but if you just need a clutch again, that's £1150 or something at Renault, and £750 or something from the specialist. I am so glad I didn't break that car in any noticeable way before it left. Oh I lie, it needed an A/C pipe, shorter than a foot, V6 specific, £157+vat...

Well, you might have missed it's witty remarks if they were buried miles down in another thread!

That's not bad, filled the Vee once and drove home the long (fun, hilly, fast) way from the petrol station. Having reset the dash before leaving the station, got home to 8mpg :-)

I'd love to try, if I could still drive, any of the current AMG or BMW 'M' crop. For some reason I have a deep love for the C63 AMG, with the optional wheels on.

I reckon 28-30mpg at best on a run.

I'm reckoning about that average rather than on a run.

Weird thing is, Saab was a 70something litre tank. Just about/over half was about £40, average week was about £35.

The Lex is a 70 litre tank. When I filled up Sunday night it was one notch above red. Only took £45 to fill over the top of the gauge. So It must have a huge reserve ammount. I guess I'm looking at seeing lower on the gauge but not as much coming out of the wallet.

Look for a Brabus Bullet Black Arrow. Makes the AMG Black look like a school run special.
