Everything doesn't. Just German crap.
Everything doesn't. Just German crap.
No, everything has become big and fat these days.
The current and last Mondeos have been bigger and heavier than the Granada / Scorpio, the current Focus dwarfs my 75 and would appear to be bigger than a 156, even the French are in on the act, look how big the
207 is compared with a 205, or the 407 next to a 405.
Not everything.
Jaguar shaved 100Kg of the XK and over 200Kg off the XJ.
Yebbut we were talking about cars not repmobiles or things nailed together by intoxicated communists.
When I went to a 207 launch evening the salesmen proudly told me the exterior dimensions of the 207 were the same as the 306.
That's largely not because the cars are smaller, but because they switched to aluminium construction, isn't it?
Which isn't really the answer - loading up cars with safety kit etc, then trying to get some weight back by making them out of expensive lightweight metals.
If we carry on like this, they'll have to switch to using carbon fibre shells just to get weights under 2 tonnes in 10 years time.
It's the case for just about every car, except those where the manufacturers have been forced to use aluminium to get the weight looking reasonably sensible.
Yeah, but if you want a car the size of a 205, obviuosly you need a 107.
If you park a 205 next to a 306, you'll find the 205 is not very much shorter or thinner.
107 is tiny.
Very similar thing with the MK2 and MK5 Golfs. The MK5 isn't much longer or wider, and isn't a whole lot taller either. OTOH the overall shape is very different, meaning that the volume of the MK5 is a lot more than of the MK2...
From personal experiments in door mirror removal and bumper denting using garage doors, I happen to know that the 306 is 5" wider and a foot longer than the 205. Googling suggests that the 107 is quite a bit shorter, but both wider and taller than a 205.
