People buy Focuses for the low service bills, low insurance, reliability, handling, space and choice. And the price.

But I do, and I use them a lot, and I still think they're a pain, and I still prefer to use Windows, and I use Windows at home.

I'd like to see the figures, as Focii are in a minority around here.

If I walk around the development, I'd count more BMW 3-series than Fords.

That just confirms that, although you use them, you don't really understand them.

Interestingly, if you sit someone who's been brought up on Linux / Unix in front of an OSX machine, they're instantly at home.

I'm perfectly at home with any of the Mac OS variants, having had macs from the classic upwards, spent three years selling and supporting power macs, still using a mirror front from day to day. I just prefer windows, prefer the choice and performance of the hardware, never have any more stability problems than I have with a mac.

As for growing up with Unix - my early days were SCO and Aix, all this GUI based friendly *nix nonesense is a pointless pile of poo - there's been a perfectly good stable multi threaded general purpose desktop OS out there from Windows NT workstation through 2000 pro to XP pro.

I was gonna say Skoda - because it does have /some/ fans :) No one likes Ladas

They were s**te. Rear drive but almost impossible to powerslide (not due to great traction either). Mechanical linkage for throttle. Engines that rattled death rattles from new. Crappy carbs. No comfort. No luxury.

That would only apply if Apple could buy the rights to Unix, but they can't.

I never owned or was old enough for either really. But in true Usenet style - I have an opinion that I will argue to the max. Amiga ruled.

Now. Nintendo or Sega? From back in the day....

Are we talking about Skoda or Lada here ;) ?

Nintendo was for kids, Sega actually had games that appealed to people other than 10 year olds.

Ha! No way, the SNES wiped the floor with the Mega Drive!

Yes, but you *were* about 8 at the time.

I rest my case.

Heh true. But the SNES was more powerful :) And let's face it, it was worth owning for Mario Kart.

Not really. SNES may have been more powerful, but the range of games for it was s**te if you were over 10.

My mum liked Mario Kart :D

You're just a big bucket of wrong. SNES *owned* - Sega blow - hence their deadness. Although, i maintain, the Dreamcast was SERIOUSLY underrated, and MSR was better than GT2...

To be fair, I'm not a fan of consoles for lots of reasons. Things have changed a bit recently because the PS2 / XBox / 360 appear to wipe the floor with computers for gaming, but back in the days of the SNES and MD, the Amiga was more than a match.

I still say the SNES was s**te, though. The only Nintendo I've ever rated was the Gameboy.

I loved Super Mario Kart. But ISTR Super Mario 2 was my favourite Nintendo game. And the Batman game was quite good as well. A while back I bought an old 8-bit NES off ebay - really should tidy things up and plug it in one day, and get a few games for it. I love the whole retro gaming thing.

F*ck that. Get an emulator for your PC.

What, when I could have the original classic dedicated hardware?

It's just the whole experience as well, of putting the cartridge in, and all that, y'know.
