That's probably pretty difficult. I've only been in one car with a central 3 point belt, and that was a Citroen Picasso, IIRC it was attached to the roof somewhere. Finding somewhere strong to mount your 3rd point is going to be the main problem, and unless you find somewhere pretty rigid it might be less safe than a lap belt if you roll the car or otherwise really bend it.

Secondly, I'm looking at putting in some additional (rear-facing) > seats at the back (ie. in the boot space) for the children.

The boot space is a crumple zone. You may know what happens to a crumple zone when something hits it. Putting the kids there isn't a good idea.

Does anyone have any experience of doing something similar, and know > where to go to have it done, and approximately how much the changes > might cost? I'm a little averse to going to the local Peugeot dealer, > as I'm sure their charges would be high, even if they did take on such > modifications.

Get something that already has 7 seats and check that the back two are still protected by crumple zones.

Loads of new cars have them, beemers have had them for years, new Corsa's have them ffs!

Lots of people carriers have seats there, Overfinch Range Rover conversion adds seats to the boot.

Probly easier.

I'm assuming this is some sort of transaxle arrangement, then?

Peugeot offered a 7 seater variant of the 405 estate for a while after the 505 Family was dropped.

Personally, I reckon the OP would be better off selling the 405 and buying an H or so plated Espace. Carefully. ;)

Dorry dan, wasn't dissing the '05 - I used to own a 205, all the ill-educated nova and metro owners used to tell me it would rust away to nothing cos it was french. Chet's site might still have pictures of it, not a spot of rust on her, pity about the dents.

No, indeed I was talking about the set square inspired espaces of around H reg, they have fibreglass bodies, they dont rust where you can immediately see it - hence the outside. My original post didn't really make this clear.

And hence why I say buy carefully ;) The chassis aren't actually too bad, but they /are/ nearly 20 years old for the very first ones...

Not to mention the myriad other things that you should check on an Espace.

Has it had a knock ?

Dan's right - they don't rust.

You're just unlucky I think :)

I had two, both getting on a bit now (an '89 and a '95), and Dan's is a '93, and none of em had anything more than the tiniest couple of spots of surface rust.
