Space filled.

This month, I will mostly be smoking around in possibly the most immaculate Merc 190E in captivity.

I bought it tonight off a bloke who bought it for his daughter back in April, she only drove it once and declared it "too big". He turned out to be a total Mercedes freak - his car being a pristine, black, W124 500E with 40k KM on the clock. He wouldn't sell me the 500E even though I made a spectacularly massive offer for it. [1]

Once he'd moved the 500E out of the way, and his wifes' immaculate W124

320-24 TE, the 190E was extracted from his garage.

G reg, 139000 miles, 2 lady owners and blokey, always garaged, always serviced by main agents, metallic red, unbelievably immaculate cream leather with zero wear anywhere inside, never been smoked in, original Merc alloys, original Blaupunkt expensive stereo, full tool roll, unopened first aid kit

  • warning triangle, proper oil pressure, brand new genuine M-B battery, perfect arches, never been painted, both keys + valet key, last service by M-B at 136k miles a year ago [3]

As it's 16 years old there are the odd bits that need tlc, the back box is blowing slightly, the alternator is a bit noisy, no alarm fob, the electric aerial sticks, it needs a front tyre soon and the tracking doing [4] - oh and the gear selector bulb has blown - probably.

I'm a rather happy bunny, what's it worth?

[1] A really huge offer, more money than I've ever spent on a car in my life. [2] [2] £15000... [3] It's been sorned since 1st May, so it'll get tax and a service tomorrow [4] See above "two lady owners"

£650 max for one in perfect condition and lower mileage, 12months tax & mot. One with electrical faults, knackered exhaust, tracking and tyre, no alarm, faulty alternator and probably an engine on the way out, £200-£250. You're mad to pay more. They are very undesirable, only enthusiasts want them that age. It's a good cheap way to drive about so it makes sense - and if you're happy that's all that matters. Petrol consumption will be heavy. Keep it 12months and stick it on ebay to double your money.

Meanwhile, back on planet earth..... I'd say it's worth at least a grand.

Decent 190Es aren't cheap, even these days - especially if they're a desirable spec. like that one.

Coming from someone who favours rotten old Alfa's that info is probably spot on!

In news:454feac8$1 snipped-for-privacy@mk-nntp-2.news.uk.tiscali.com, Norm wittered on forthwith;

28-35 mpg isn't heavy, the gear selector bulb is fixed, the tracking and tyre will be done this afternoon when I get it to the garage (I run a tyre garage), the alarm isn't an issue as they were an rarely taken up option anyway, the electric aerial now works, back box is £39 from GSF and 15 minutes tops to fit..

You're taking the piss trying to say the mileage is high as well. 139k miles on a 16 year old Mercedes is nothing. They'll do 250k+ miles without any problems if serviced properly - which this one has been.

I'd also like to know why the engine is probably knackered in your opinion, and where I can buy a perfect, full history, top spec 190E auto with 12 months tax and MOT for £650 tops.

In fact, I'll buy 5 for that money, today.

This one, I'd value at around £900 all day once it's had the exhaust fitted and the alternator repaired, with 12 months MOT.

I didn't pay anywhere near that, but if you can find me another 190E as clean as this one for £650, I'll have it.
