One of the optional extras on the GTi is a centre armrest in the front. £115! Why on earth doesn't it come as standard on something that costs £20k?

And why on earth are space saver spares called space savers? Most cars have enough room in the spare wheel well to fit a proper sized spare, and have it as an optional extra. The manufacturers are just being bloody tight.

As i said i specced one upto around 30k. IIRC it was over a grand for the upgrade from 17"-18" wheels.

Admittedly i was daft ticking options but i think it illustrates a point quite well.

They are trying to tempt the BMW 3/5 series or Z5 market. I know which car i'd rather be sat in considering the cost.

I cant beleive they took this long developing the car and didnt make it faster then many of the major new hot hatch competitors.

For those whom consider cars an expression of sexuality, isn't it always the case that any car which is bigger/faster/more powerful than yours or even your taste in cars is some sort of compensation?

Oh i think thats just an extension of jelousy, the reason why most 40 somthing people own porches is due to the fact that they can afford them. But most sub 30 people can't and they are the ones that tend to make the most noise, for instance if you own a ferrari you must have a small penis...

The armrest is a pain in the ass with a manual gearbox as you end up with it folded up so you can change gear. Would be fine with the DSG though - in fact I can imagine the 2.0 turbo with the DSG to be a good combination.

The space savers are made to a specific long-life compound so as not to rot or lose pressure over long periods of non-use.

my MR2 has a space saver and it's a lot lighter than a standard wheel and allows a bit more room to dump s*it at the front of the car if needed as to much crap in the boot can make it a bit tail happy

Err well, I suppose your observation could be correct, except for a couple of minor details, such as me not linking cars with sex or sexuality and not giving a tinker's f*ck about what someone chooses to drive.

However the statement about Porsches stands, they are predominantly a middle aged purchase and usually made at the same time as obtaining a trophy wife after the divorce.

I didn't say you did - simply that generally, the idea that any half decent car is in some way compensating for some shortfall.

I mean, I'd like a BMW 850i, or Porsche 928S4. Both are fierce midlife crisis stereotype cars. I'm 29. I could probably just about afford an old one, but I couldn't maintain it well.

Or, they're bought by people who wanted something similar, and finally have some spare income, an empty nest, and can afford/justify running the kind of car they dreamed about.

I'm not saying that they didn't want the car back then because it would attract attention, but I think it's a bit silly.

Now, a car like a Lexus SC430 - that's a chest-wig of a car. No redeeming features. A 928? It's a fantastic car by all accounts.

You can get the same bhp out of a c20xe with either twin 45's or 40mm throttle bodies. I like cars in three colours black, dark green and red.

I would consider one given the disposable income...

Current Volvos put up to 272bhp through the front wheels as standard, many modded ones over 300bhp. Front drive can be done well.

I will admit, 200bhp sounds great but doesn't feel it - I need that T5 (320bhp just a chip-tune away...)
