Toyota Pious mini-review.

What a weird, weird thing.

241 miles for £25 didn't strike me as being particularly good, when the Focus diesel we used to pick it up in did 580 miles for £50ish.

Very, very bloody weird though.

Their mpg is only good in start stop conditions. And downright poor if you thrash them on the open road. As you have to to get any performance.

Just so ugly from the back.

Mustard mitt, it was doing around 80 mpg when I was stuck in the nightmare that happened on the M6..

along with every other angle.

I used one for over a month, avg 40mpg, I now run 3.0 D4D and I get 37.

Had a 2L Aurus TDi thing last week did ~100 miles on £10, hideous thing inside and out. I guess they sent out to the states for plastic that bad. The seats were the most uncomfortable thing I've experienced since the few years I spent hiding out in a Venezuelan ministry back in the '50's, the "flying" centre console is in the way of the front seat passengers knees (how can a car aiming for that class have less front leg room than my 1982 polo?) it had 2 nice features in the entire package. 1, surprisingly big boot. 2, nice dials.

Oh dear god, you weren't in that were you? I just got on the M6 at Lymme after hearing about it, seeing the south bound queue and hearing how bad it was north bound.

Not good.

I got 250 miles for 25 quid out of a 2 litre Mondeo last week...

Nearly. I heard about it when I was at the other end of the M5, when I got to the Midlands I diverted through Wolverhampton then heard on the Mark'n'Maconie show that it was clear. Luckily I was only about 3 miles from the M6 when they mentioned it. I had spent a while in City traffic heading up towards Stafford and working around it.

The M62 yesterday was backed up from Edge Lane to Birchwood at 8am....

Not bad... I only get 400 miles out of mine for a £50 tankful. And that's if I'm doing nice long runs, not 15 minute country lanes like I do to work now...

It's been down as low as 270 during the coldest wettest bits :-(

I think my all time record in a diesel Mondeo was 1050 miles for £110. That was quick motorway stuff combined with a few twisties and a couple of hours of fighting through London traffic.

Mk3 Mondeo TDDi.

Ah. Mk 1 Mondeo 2.0 Petrol... Not surprising you get more than I do!

They certainly are. And as you say, their MPG increases in heavy traffic.

It takes a while to adapt to how they drive, but they're suited to busy urban and semi-urban routes with their target audience.

Mr. Plowman is missing the point...

Which isn't in the UK.

Those who buy them in the UK certainly are.

I currently get 225 miles out of 15 quid of gas in the Golf. Or, if you like, 150 miles out of a tenner. It used to be a bit less, but a new coil has improved things overall.

If only I had a car that didn't burn quite as much fuel, it would be even better.

I had a similar experience with the Mondeo 2.2 ST TDCi. Filled it up in Portsmouth drove it around the country for a week, returned to Portstmouth and filled it up with £65 of fuel, at that time 76 litres which made it close to 60mpg for the round trip of a little over 1000 miles. I wasn't being easy on the throttle either, but some journeys were long runs at a constant 70mph.

Which direction? I really hate that road. Had to come home that way yesterday and it was clear, but it really must be one of the worst managed motorways.

I think every one on the M62 must normally use the M56 and were avoiding it because they hadn't heard the M6 was re-opened. The 56 was the clearest I've ever seen it. Even clearer than Xmas.

Towards the Capital of Culture :-)

It's not too bad. I drove from my house to Sheffield this morning and even Pious Powered managed to stick to a steady speed all the way. Set the cruise at Knotty Ash and didn't cancel it until Sheffield.

The M6 was excellent when it re-opened the other night. It was like motorways used to be before cameras, with the added bonus of all the trucks having diverted.

Noticed on the M54 the other day that they're trialling a "No Overtaking for trucks 7am - 7pm" thing. It works :-D. I just hope they make it national, or even better intergalactic.

The Mondeo Estate that I offered to Albert T the other day has ended up being adopted as our "runner" for the next six months. Long story, but it ended up being a lot more expensive than it should have been and has needed body repairs after the guy who'd agreed to buy it had a moment on a test drive...

Ah yes, a few years ago I had a car ruined by a nephew who decided to be helpful and move the car on the drive. Cost of repairs greater than the value of the car.

The majority of the UK is semi-urban.

Nope. One would suit my trips into the middle of Leeds.
