I still don't see the point.
If our ISP continues to try and traffic shape NNTP it'll be the only way to communicate soon.
I don't think traffic shaping would be a huge issue for text based NNTP. It'll screw those who use binary groups, though.
You're not quite clued up as to how inept our ISP is.
I have no NNTP access here hence using the rather dreadfull Google groups, but they just about do the job and with the right Firefox add-ons you can still kill file people like ken.
You may want to get an account with a decent ISP instead then.
He may not have a choice...
