Have they started using those performance limiting keys like the US makers have, so parents can give their V8s to their teenagers for the evening?

Why are you all being weird? You can get very slow versions of most cars, and this has always been the case and is only likely to get moreso for tax/cheapness reasons :-)
what engine is in that a 1.4?
Ford's 1.6 Zetec-SE, Duratec 16v, or whatever Volvo call it these days...
100 PS, 1400 kg plus five people, and a panic alarm feature. What more could you realistically want?
Apart from the Prius. There's no fast version of that.
