Just been looking at the exploded diagrams on the Rimmer Bros site and I reckon it could be possible. Dad wasn't too sure of the setup either but was gonna have a closer look tomorrow to see if he could double check where the play in the strut was. I've got Friday off, so might mosey on down to have a look for myself!

Heh, you're the first! I'd like to think I'll keep this a while as it's the car I've always wanted!! Plus I've had the BX for almost a year, and the Volvo 18 months - longest I've kept cars since my first one I think! Must be getting old :)

Just picked up on this.

Top bearing trouble is pretty unlikely but they are available as spares.

And it sounds like the dampers themselves don't, as it were, rather than play somewhere.

Gaz shocks can be weird. Even from new, they can appear to have absolutley no damping through their whole range of adjustment off the car, no matter how many times you pump them.

But on the car they tend to work OK, but not great.

The guy in the unit next door to Dad is a fairly good drifter - he's got a pretty tasty 200SX and he reckons that Gaz dampers can be pretty horrendous - he's known people only get 10k miles from a pair before they're knackered. Mine have done ~15k miles but have spent a lot of time standing over the last 3 years.

I'll see how I get on with the standard inserts with the 30mm lowering srpings for now. If they dont feel right I'll either put it back to standard or save up for some decent Konis

I had a second hand set on my old Estelle, and a brand new set on the first Saab I had.

You couldn't really tell the difference between how well they worked, new versus second hand. But I don't know if that is good or bad.

Apparently, they make shocks for AVO, but use steel instead of alloy bodies for their own to keep the price down.

I would go with standard inserts for now, just to get it back on the road.
