'00 GT seatbelt retraction (or lack of)

Sep 27, 2004 4 Replies

Hi All,

I have a '00 GT with 63K miles. The driver-side seatbelt stopped retracting about 6 months ago. It is really annoying me now. Someone at work mentioned that such problems are covered by a lifetime warranty. I have two questions:

1) Is such a problem covered by lifetime warranty? I only had the standard
36000mi/3yr.
2) If 1 above is not true, what is the best way to get to this problem. I imagine that I would have to remove some interior panels, so if someone has done this before, a few pointers would help (I am afraid of "snapping" some plastic).

Thanks Musty.

Hey Musty, Only having experience with convertibles, I don't know for sure if yours retracts to the same place mine does Is it at all possible that it could have a twist in it way deep down inside? If so, look at the floor mount by the seat. You can remove the cover and check it out.

I am not sure how it is on the convertibles (probably same). I took the internal panel off and the issue really was that it was twisted meaning that it could not roll up correctly. Using a pair of pliers I was able to flip upside down (to correct it). It retracts like new now! Thanks for the suggestions.

Hey Great news! Glad to hear that you got her fxed and it was not a buck$y operation.
