`05 Ford Mustang GT Premium Insanity

Here is an excellent example of `05 Ford Mustang GT Premium Insanity. I did an online inquiry of local dealers via MSN Auto's on an `05 Ford Mustang GT Premium in Screaming Yellow with every option except the Shacker 1000 sound system and an automatic tranny. MSN lists the MSRP with freight at $27,725 and an invoice price of $25,379.

A local dealer calls me up and tells me he has a used GT Premium with all that equipment, but it is Sonic Blue Metallic as opposed to the Screaming Yellow, so basically what I am looking for, but in the wrong color. I figure what the hell might as well go check it out and maybe save a couple of bucks since it is used with ~ 1000 miles on the clock. Took it for a test drive and the yee-ha factor was so high I no longer cared about the color. The Sonic Blue is pretty sweet looking as well, even though I wanted the Yellow.

Well to make and ever increasing long story short and one want to take a guess at what their asking price on a used GT Premium with 1K on the clock? Answer below for those who want to play the game.

The bastards actually had the gall to be asking $33K for a used car that MSRP's out at $$27,725 brand freakin new. That's right boys & girls $5275 over brand new MSRP on an `05 GT Premium. Now does that take balls or what? Looks like it is time to order it through Sam's at 3% over invoice. Just finished doing up the quote and it is $25,205.00 via Sam's club plus freight and I get the color I want. What a bunch of a maroons.

Cool. I get a supplier's discount anyway, but I'm not sure that will do shit with an '05 right now. I'm going to wait another year before I buy.

Yup.... and come time for repairs and service and you'll spend most of your time at the back of the line. It's not "supposed" to happen, but every dealership treats purchasing customers better than walk-ins. Of course you could always go back to Sams club and see how their after sales service is....

Welcome to Ford and it's dealers playing their same old marketing games.

I really would like to consider the cobra when it comes out. But I just know I'll have to deal with BS like this. My '97 GT will likely be my first and only new or even newish ford if they keep up these games.

I don't see anything wrong with that. It's called the law of supply and demand. It's the basis of capitalism and the American Way. The dealership owns the car. The have the perfect right to ask anything they want for it. You have the perfect right to walk away. What could be better than that? Sure, the dealership is a bunch of maroons, but that's their right.

I've been offered over $10K for my old mustang. I still have it. Maybe if somebody offered me 2-3 times that I might sell. But I'm not holding my breath.

Just like the PT Cruiser, they charged too much ripping people off till enough were made. This isn't a going to be a small production run. Their's going to be more than enough produced. Not like the t-bird, There will be discounts on these before it's all over with. Hold tight and don't give in to these tatics.

Maybe in Canada. I've gotten excellent service from a nearby Ford Dealer even though I purchased from one in a different part of the state.

no one should EVER pay a dime more than msrp for any regular production car - regardless of how hot it is

sure the dealer can ask

but i guarantee they will always take sticker for it and usually less

Yeah, right now you can get it for MSRP, but not one penny less. They'll just wait for the next Bubba to come along and try to oversell it to him. They can afford to sit & wait. Supply isn't keeping up with demand. I've been very surprised at the low number of GT's on dealers lots compared to the high numbers of V6 models.

That's what I paid. Or *will* pay if the 18G shortage is ever worked out. :(

I talked to another dealer who was sniffing arounf for $2K over. I said, "Lokk, I'll give you MSRP." He said the next guy behind me will be willing to pay +2K.

So I said, "OK. Sell me one for MSRP, and sell the other guy one for

+2K. That way you sell TWO cars."

It was like I was speaking Klingon or something. The concept seemed utterly alien to him.

Well my mantra has become, wait till next year. Probably a good idea anyways on any first model year new car anyways.
