I have a 1968 289 ragtop and I can't get the taillights or running lights to go off. I tried hitting the emergency flashers and they made it turn off a few times before but that doesn't work anymore. I checked my fuses under the dash and they all seem fine. What could be the problem? I hope some kind soul can give me an answer before my battery runs out.

Here is a guess. Your car has a stick shift not an automatic. Am I right?
The the pedal bushings are worn out. This lets the brake pedal drop down and that makes the brake switch turn on. The clutch puts a lot more load on the bushings and leads to earlier failure.

He said the running lights are on too which points me toward the switch or associated wiring. If the brake lights were on constantly then I'd agree on the brake light switch too. Unless he has the problem you described AND bad grounds that cause the brake light current to backfeed through the running light circuit ;^) ain't old car wiring fun!? StuK
