2000 GT key fobs?

I only have 1 for my GT (bought used) I'm wanting to buy another but, here's the problem......all I find are 4 button, the 1 I have is 3, mine doesn't have a trunk button. My car is loaded with every available option. How can I find out if the remote trunk release will work? Thx again for all the help.

thats weird. You might have a truck remote.

make sure you check out Ebay for remotes. A lot cheaper. Remove NO-SPAM from email address when replying

Yep, all 2000 Mustangs had 4 button remotes w/trunk release. As stated here in the past, anyone that purchases a used car should make sure the dealer supplies two fobs and two keys. If the salesman says the're lost, make it part of the deal to have them replaced. IIRC, the fobs can be programed easily and the directions are in the service manual but It takes two keys to program a new one. If you only have one key, you have to pay the dealer to program the second using the service port.

Good call, after running the numbers I did verify this remote is for rangers, exlporers & expeditions. Thanks for the inputs & yes I have since learned always include 2 keys & 2 fobs in the deal b4 closing!!!! Kelly

Are you sure the one you have is the original FORD fob? Does the car have an alarm? The fob you have might be an aftermarket fob for the alarm. My 99 came with a 4 button FORD fob but when I had an alarm installed they gave me the one for the new alarm and I threw the FORD fobs in the drawer. The 3 button should still do the trunk if they wired it up. My trunk button has to be held down for at least two full seconds before it pops the trunk. Try holding down your third button for several seconds and see if the trunk pops.

Kelly,

I have a four button laying around the house I could sell you if you like...It is from my 1999 Cougar, but it looks just like the ones for my

2003 Mustang...Let me look for it tonight...Let me know if you are interested...Also, what does FOB stand for...I always just called it a remote, or keyless entry...I have seen it called FOB, but I just can not figure out what it stands for.

It doesn't stand for anything, at least in this context. Originally, it was either the pocket where you kept your pocket watch, the chain that held your pocket watch on, or an ornament attached to that chain.

However, over the past few decades it has come to mean anything that hangs off your keyring, but especially vehicle remotes. When someone talks about their key fob, they're probably talking about the remote.

Picked up a pair of new factory Ford "remotes" off ebay for $24 total, works great & programming was simple. Now I have a remote for a Ford truck if anyone needs it. Thanks for the input. Kelly
