5.0 Mustang Values 10, 20... years from now ??

OK, here's a look into the future. What do you see 5.0 based Stang values (different models) will be worth say 10, 20 years from now ??

In other words, how "collectible" do you think the 5.0 Models will be then ??

That will depend on it's originality, history, mileage, and overall condition at that time. Roughly 20 other things that could play a factor in future pricing, but I'm too tired to type them all out.

Possibly if someone was able to buy a notchback with the SSP (copstang) package from a dealer. One of those in original, low mileage form could have a bit of collectibility. There were a few that made it to the public w/o having gone through duty use.

Steve Race car on the way.

Well there is one thing that is probably true, most of them won't get significantly cheaper than they are now. (absent of unforseen events) The only question is how long will stay there. could be a few years, a decade, even forever. Hard to say.

Bill,

Yes, these are factors, but they're factors for any car.

I think what the question was, is what models of 5.0 will be most desirable. But first, in addition to what Bill mentioned, collectors like uniqueness, lots of options, low production numbers, but most of all they like muscle. In other words, they heavily favor the "best of the breed" cars. So with that said, and in no real order, here are my _guesses_.

1) '93 Cobra/R 2) "Tuner" models (i.e. Saleens/SSCs, Steedas, Kenny Browns, etc.) 3) ASC/McLaren's 4) Maybe an old magazine test car like Mean Mr. Mustang, Defeo's or Nitrous Pete's old LXs, or a big 5.0 racer's ex-race car like one of Stormin Norman's car. All of these cars, if found and documented, would have big notoriety and potenially command big $$$s. 5) Prototype cars like Roush's proposed twin-turbo 351 car (if it survived)would, obviously, command HUGE dollars. 6) SAAC Mark 1s 7) Cop Stangs (like SEEverist previously mentioned) 8) The 2196 '92 "Vitamin C" convertibles 9) Odd balls like Ronnie Sox's "Little Boss" Specials 10) '82 GTs (being the first of the real 5.0s) 11) Not a 5.0 model, but the SVO Mustangs ('85 1/2 being the hot one) 12) SN-95 GTSs

Personally, I don't think the Pace Car will hold much value. There isn't really anything, besides the decals, to make them special. I also don't think the '86 cars (crappy heads), nor the T-top cars (they did away with them for a reason) will command extra.

I think the most interesting thing to watch will be the values between the 5.0 LXs and the GTs. Historically, well-optioned cars tend to fetch the bigger bucks, but in the 5.0's case, the bare-knuckled LXs were the ones who originally won over the serious 5.0 enthusiasts. So, in a decade or two, which one will they want more... an '88 LX notchback, or a '89 fully-loaded GT? (I think everyone here knows which one I would pay more money for, but I'm not like most people.) The convertibles will also be ones to watch. Yes, the GT's had all the options, but there weren't as many 5.0 LX 'verts produced.

I think the biggest factor that will limit future prices of the 5.0s will be the fact that the newer performance cars are so much better and so much faster. The early '64 1/2-'73 Mustangs, on the other hand, didn't have to face any stiff competition for years, and were able to build up a big following. And I think that helped their collectability quite a bit. But the late-model breed has had to face tougher competition from day one. I mean, why are you going to pay top dollar for a '93 Cobra when a new GT runs as good or better? And a new Mach 1 or Cobra will smoke it. But again, that's my thinking. Collectors/nostalgic people will, I'm sure, have a different view.
