6 Speed into an '86 GT

I'm thinking about putting a 6 speed manual into my '86 GT.

Are there any kits out there to do this? If so, who?

What all would you have to change? Bell housing? Driveshaft? Could you use the factory hole in the trans tunnel? Speedometer gearing?

Thanks for your help.

It's a big job. And expensive. You'll spend close to $2,500 if you do the work yourself. What you get with a T56 is essentially the same first 4 gears as a T5, and instead of a .68

5th, you get a .8 5th and a .62 6th.

Here's an artical describing it:

I've seen a couple of kits. But it seemd like it was cheaper to source the parts individually. I would contact people like fortesparts.com and keislerauto.com

My Z28 has a 6 speed T56. Fifth is .74 to 1, and sixth is .5 to 1

I have a T-56 installed in my '89 LX. There are kits out there to do it but be prepared to spend around $2,500-$3,000 to do it right. You will need to relocate a cross member and do some fairly intensive welding along with a drive shaft swap among other things. In the end though the T-56 is a sweet tranny and you will be happy, except for the lighter wallet. ;)
