'90 LX Hatchback--Hatchback Latch Bolt Replacement

I'm an original owner of a '90 LX 5.0 hatchback. The hatchback latch engages a striker bolt. The bolt has a plastic/teflon "tube" around it so there is no metal to metal contact. Well my "tube" has broken and parts of it have chipped away so there is no metal to metal contact. My dealer looked up the part, said it had been discontinued but found a dealer in PA (I'm in CA) who had one. When I got the part today, it was the wrong part because my dealer must have given me the wrong part number.

Does anyone know the right part number for the "tube" and/or where can I find one?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

You can't just find one at a local wrecking yard? For a part like that, that's what I would do.

Problem with getting wear items like that from a yard: If they're *in* a wrecking yard, they've probably already had a normal-to-tough life, not to mention that they *are* X number of years old.

Been there, done that, got two automatic shifter handles with broken cables to prove it. :)

Food for thought, anyway.

Garth,

I've never heard of these things breaking. And they shouldn't be a "wear item" unless the striker isn't lined up right.

Thanks--That's why the yard is the last resort

I can understand that but I always close the hatch in the center but I've had other people close the hatch from the side. I surmise that might cause the latch to slightly misalign

I doubt that's the cause. I think it's the "tube" loosening up, moving around and getting struck dead on. With your new (old) tube make sure it's lined up right and it stays tightened up.

Final Report--

Worthington Ford Parts Dept in Long Beach was the one who gave me the bad number (young kid at the desk) so before I called 50Resto today I ran over to Pacific Ford, also in Long Beach. The older parts guy knew exactly what I needed, ordered it and I can pick it up today. NEVER, NEVER again will I go to Worthington Ford.
