Well...
Princess got a new car stereo setup for Christmas. Her '99 Mystique had lost one speaker after another over the years, and of late she had no tunes at all. So I had a nice little Sony unit installed (CD/iPod, etc.) along with 4 Pioneer speakers, and she is absolutely lovin' it. For her, the Geek Squad at Best Buy did a good job on the install. They also found that the factory amp had blown, which may have been part or parcel of the problem in the first place. No matter, the factory unit was pumping out 3W and the amp kicked it up to 40W. Her Sony is now cruising at 50W all by itself, and Princess can listen to all of the tunes on her Nano.
Now, for CFrog, I decided to go with a local car stereo shop (no Geek Squad for ME). I thought about a separate amp with a subwoofer, but backed off of that. I'm more classical than rock, so I don't need a thoroughly boomin' bass. My ears like a natural bass and a full spectrum of sound, so I went with some nice Boston Acoustics all around. Besides, an amp and subwoofer would have taken up all usable space in the trunk.
The shop owner also talked me into a Kenwood X791 head unit, although I'm no fan of Kenwood. iPod cable is tucked in the glovebox. I got to spend a total of about 30 minutes so far with the manual, trying to figure out what-all this puppy can do, and the manual is CRAP. Definitely not written by an MIT engineer whose native language is English. Even so, I did manage to call up Dire Straits on my iPod on the way home and listened to most of Brothers in Arms. The setup sounds VERY good, even in a GT convertible.
So far, I am very pleased.
Now, if only I can figure out how to change the display from blue to green...
