Convertible hydraulic fluid?

Oct 19, 2006 2 Replies

Our convertible top is running in super slow-mo. I looked at the motor today, and it says "fill with xyz fluid" -- but I couldn't find any reservoir to fill.

What's the procedure for adding fluid to this beast? What kind of fluid does it take?

Thanks!

My 1997 shop manual reads:

  1. Remove rear seat. Refer to section 01-10. (this section covers how to remove the seat)
  2. Carefully remove the rubber fill plug from the back of the reservoir and check the fluid level. THe level should be at the bottom of the filler hole. If necessary add Motorcraft MERCON Multi-purpose Automatic transmission fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting for specification.
  3. Replace fill plug with a new fill plug
  4. Bleed system as described if necessary.

No illustrations are given.

Thanks.

Unfortunately my problem is that there's no visible reservoir. Just a hydraulic pump.

I'll look again.
