Generation wise, Mustangs usually get broken down like this:

1st Generation: 1964=BD to 1973 (Classics) 2nd Generation: 1974 to 1978 (Mustang II, or the "forgotten" generation) 3rd Generation: 1979 to 1993 (FOX-bodied) 4th Generation: 1994 to 2004 (SN-95/99+) 5th Generation: 2005 to ??

not generations but going by body style you could break mustangs down into groups like this,each group had a major change and minor changes each year.

65-66 67-68 69-70 71-73 74-78 79-86 87-93 94-98 99-2004

Hmmm.... wan't it around '71 that the Mustang and Cougar started to get real bloated...... That they grew a little with the '69 body change is no secret but my '72 Cougar was an obese pig, comparatively speaking.

Sad to say, when I sold that XR7 convertible, it was just another "old car"...... pardon me - it's time to whack my head against the wall again....

Yeah> Like winze said, those generations could be broken down into=20 subcategories by year; generations are usually defined by *major*=20 redesigns, not minor tweaks (a louver here, a foot or two of length=20 there...). Here's what I'd call them if we were going by years:

Classics (Gen. 1)

1964=BD-1966: Small 1967-1968: Medium 1969-1970: Large 1971-1973: King-sized

Mustang II (Gen. 2)

1974-1978: Pinto power! :)

FOX-Bodied (Gen. 3)

1979-1986: Four-eyed 1987-1993: Aero

I don't have any for 94+ yet... :)

car"...... pardon me - it's time to whack my head against the wall again.= =2E..

Everyone has their "coulda, woulda, shouldas". Unfortunately, my=20 way-back machine is on the fritz right now or I'd help you out. ;)
