don't laff.....
it's taken me a long time to come to grips with clearcoat.......I was so used to: wash it....use cleaner......wax it......polish it.......hell, I grew up with Blue Coral!
been using Mequirs yellow (sp?) for some years on the older cars.....nice shine....some swirls on darker ones.....still some work to it.....and I wondered about all the rubbing on the clearcoat.
for some years, I've used "New Finish" on the daily beaters......yeah, that liquid stuff they sell in drug stores. not only is it easy and fast, it's the only thing I've every found that lasts thru a winter of sitting out and slogging thru salt. became a believer with my old white Volvo.....any wax I tried would give up by January and the paint would be stained by Spring. but the New Finish is still there no matter what.
started using it on the new car, too. Wow......doubt if there is any wax in it......it leaves an almost greasy feel behind. but you know what? it shines so much, the cars still look good when they're dirty.........people ask me if I've had the beater painted........put it on a Chrysler LHS 4 years ago and it still beads!
another Truth it took me 30 years to figure out.....chrome (remember chrome?) I always used to wax and wax, trying to protect it. it would still get nasty and pit.....I've had parts rechromed that pitted in the garage having never even gotton wet. then I went the opposite direction.....put nothing on it.....clean it with Windex or similar.......theory is the wax tends to trap moisture and dirt.
