That's what I did, used my usual car soap in a bucket & used the Mr. Clean for the final rinse & I love it no more rushing to dry. I will honestly recommend it!

Filter lifetime will depend on what's in the water. I'd assume the filter cartridge is just a small disposable resin cartridge. Harder water will give shorter lifetime.
They claim it won't work good if you don't use the soap. Any experience with that ?
And has anyone tried different soap ? They claim it will clog the system, but that could just be to protect their soap-sales.

I just use my normal car wash soap in a bucket, then final rinse with the mr.clean filter, works great, especially for those lazy days when you just don't feel like drying.
